DETROIT (Feb. 8, 2024) – Burris Law, PLLC, is pleased to announce the addition of Lindsay N. Kandow, Erica K. Schaefer, and Evan R. Sotiriou as patent attorneys and partners. Kandow and Schaefer are based in northern Michigan, and Sotiriou is based in St. Louis, Missouri.

Also, as partners, they will be engaged with the overall management and growth of our firm.”
Kandow focuses on the preparation and prosecution of electrical and software patents and has led teams of patent attorneys to assist clients with patent portfolio development and management. She has a particular focus in computer software and artificial intelligence related technologies for various industries. She also draws upon her previous work as a software engineer in the automotive industry, having developed software for engine, transmission, and body control modules.
Kandow has 20 years of experience as a patent attorney. She earned her J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law and her Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University.
Schaefer concentrates her practice on the preparation and prosecution of mechanical, electromechanical, and design patents. Her industry focus areas and technologies include automotive, aeronautics/aerospace, medical devices, diabetes management devices, control systems, manufacturing, agricultural, forestry and construction machinery, and mechanical and electro-mechanical devices. Schaefer also has represented clients in matters involving opinions, post-grant proceedings, and mergers and acquisitions.
Schaefer has almost 20 years of experience as a patent attorney. She earned her J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly G.M.I. Engineering and Management Institute).
Sotiriou concentrates on the preparation and prosecution of electrical and software patents. He represents corporate clients in domestic and international intellectual property matters, including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights. He focuses his work in the technological areas of electrical, software, electromechanical, and mechanical inventions.
Sotiriou has more than 25 years of experience as a patent attorney at multiple national firms. He earned his J.D. from Washington University School of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
