Chao Peng

Chao Peng brings more than a decade of scientific innovation to the world of intellectual property, backed by deep technical expertise in polymers and organic chemistry. Chao earned his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from the University of Akron. With over fifteen years of scientific experience, Chao has led the development of novel small molecules and polymers used in diverse sectors including biomedical, hygiene, cosmetics, and agriculture. His work has directly contributed to four granted patents, sixteen scientific publications, and multiple national conference presentations.
During his time in academia and industry, Chao worked closely with legal teams on various IP-related initiatives. He has drafted provisional patent applications and provided support to patent attorneys in preparing responses to USPTO office actions. These activities have given Chao practical knowledge of the patent process, along with first-hand insight into how strong patent portfolios support business strategy and drive innovation pipelines.
Outside of the office, Chao enjoys spending time with his family, staying active at the gym, tending to his vegetable garden, and playing tennis.
Industry Experience
Prior to joining Burris Law, Chao was a Senior Research Scientist at Ecovia Renewables, where he developed biobased and biodegradable polymers aimed at addressing the global issue of microplastic pollution, while delivering performance comparable to synthetic materials in applications such as hygiene, cosmetics, and agriculture.
