As attention turns to medal counts on the global stage this winter, Burris Law is celebrating a podium-worthy achievement of its own. In Juristat’s 2025 Top Patent Firms, Burris Law earned five Gold and Silver top-tier rankings, reflecting high levels of client-service performance in patent prosecution outcomes before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Burris Law received three Gold designations in Extensions, Time to Response After Office Action, and Normalized Allowance Rate, along with two Silver recognitions in Normalized Time to Allowance and Normalized Office Actions to Allowance.

Since 2016, Juristat has published “Top Patent Firms” rankings, evaluating law firms strictly on objective USPTO data. The rankings are grounded in prosecution metrics – outcomes, speed, efficiency, difficulty, and scale – derived from Juristat’s proprietary dataset. Only firms that filed or disposed of more than 100 applications within a defined 12-month period are included.

  • Gold – Extensions: Measures the average number of time extensions requested per application, reflecting docket management discipline and prosecution strategy
  • Gold – Time to Response After Office Action: Evaluates the average number of days between receipt of an office action and filing a first response. Lower response times may indicate efficient internal processes and proactive case management
  • Gold – Normalized Allowance Rate: Adjusts allowance rates to account for examiner difficulty, providing a fair comparison across firms. By removing examiner-based bias, normalization isolates firm performance in achieving successful outcomes
  • Silver – Normalized Time to Allowance: Adjusts raw time-to-allowance data to account for examiner processing speeds, offering a clearer measure of prosecution efficiency
  • Silver – Normalized Office Actions to Allowance: Provides a balanced comparison of how efficiently firms advance applications toward allowance by accounting for examiner-specific tendencies in issuing office actions.
