Patent attorney and engineer Peter Keros knows that beyond the legal reasons for filing a patent lie the business reasons. He prioritizes knowing his client’s business case for securing a patent, which informs the legal strategy he applies to advance his clients’ goals.
“A patent – like all intellectual property – is an asset. Each asset a company owns should have a clearly stated business case. My job is to learn about my clients’ business to give them the patents, trademarks, and copyrights they need to further their goals. I take the details, and worries, off their desks and minds by creating strategies and plans that fit their technology into the IP world in a way that they can understand.”
Peter’s broad technical background, business mindset, and experience shepherding intellectual property through the legal system provide efficiencies and advantages for his clients. He navigates complicated legal concepts and complex technologies to arrive at practical solutions for a wide variety of clientele including major corporations, mid-size enterprises, and entrepreneurs. Above all, he is committed to providing a high-quality product and service.
Before earning his master’s degree in mechanical engineering and attending law school, Peter had already developed his keen business sense. Coming from a Greek immigrant family, Peter grew up working in his family’s Detroit restaurants. Immersed in this fast-paced and demanding world, he learned the importance of working calmly and diligently under pressure while gaining first-rate customer service skills. He carries these lessons with him, and this work ethic frames his intellectual property practice today.
In addition to his technical and legal talents, clients appreciate Peter’s “real-world” perspective, calm demeanor, excellent writing, and concise communication skills. He is highly organized and deadline oriented, ensuring that work is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Peter’s background in both mechanical and electrical technologies covers a range of industries. He has filed patents and assisted in managing portfolios for major automotive companies, auto parts suppliers, and an international fuse manufacturer. In addition, he has also worked with restaurants and other retailers on trademark matters, drafted design patents for start-up companies, and prepared copyright registrations for artists and software companies. Peter maintains an active profile among the Detroit tech industry, bringing his legal and technical experience to emerging enterprises.
