Luke Hibbeler

Intellectual Property Attorney

Luke Hibbeler is an intellectual property attorney whose practice focuses on patent prosecution across chemical, materials science, and mechanical technologies. With a background in chemical engineering and chemistry, Luke enjoys digging into complex technologies and working with inventors to understand not only what makes an invention work, but what makes it valuable. He has substantial experience prosecuting U.S. patent applications, including U.S. national stage applications, and managing related patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions.

Luke’s practice has been particularly prosecution-intensive, giving him extensive experience developing strategies for responding to Office Actions, drafting amendments, conducting examiner interviews, and advancing applications through the examination process. His technical experience spans a broad range of technologies, including battery materials and packaging, steel compositions, polymer-based paints and sealants, water treatment technologies, turbine engines, power tools, and printing toner compositions.

Before joining Burris Law, Luke developed a broad-based intellectual property practice that gave him experience with patents from several perspectives. In addition to patent prosecution, he worked on patent infringement matters, analyzed questions of patent scope and validity, and advised clients on licensing and other intellectual property agreements. That experience allows Luke to approach prosecution with an appreciation for how patent rights may ultimately be evaluated, commercialized, and enforced.

Luke brings the same competitive mindset to his legal practice that he developed as a collegiate athlete. While earning his undergraduate degree at Kansas State University, Luke competed in Division I Track and Field and was named an All-Academic Big 12 Scholar-Athlete. He later used his final year of NCAA eligibility while attending Saint Louis University School of Law, where he set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles.
